Is beauty really just in the eye of the beholder?

I often hear phrases like, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," but isn't it ironic when considering that beauty is being molded into what society has been dictating for over centuries.  The stereotypical description of being slim or slender and white skinned has corrupted the brains of many.  Giving remarks like, only white skinned women look good in any kind of clothing, be it tattered, give them anything and they'd look good in it, or only those women with slender bodies look good in sexy clothing and such.  I am very much offended by these remarks.  It gives me the notion that only these kind of women have the freedom to be beautiful and fashionable.  Should dark skinned women be mortified of their color just because society says that they would not look as good as those with light skin?  Shouldn't it be called a fallacy when someone says that you don't look good in that dress because it doesn't fit your skin tone?  Or when someone says, you're too fat for that dress.  I am deeply astounded and bemused at what society thinks to be beautiful.  It seems that people have been greatly influenced by the Western world, obsessed and compelled to make themselves look fairer and become thinner just to succumb to the modern day idea of beauty.  I am a proud, morena Filipina and I do not wish to abide by these idiotic rules set by society but I am a human too and I do get offended.  As much as I want not to be, I feel the pain that goes through almost every Filipina out there with dark skin, and those who are being stereotyped because of it.  I hate discrimination and that is why I have to spread this message out.  To those who by any chance read this post and appreciate it, please do share it to others and let them know. Ciao loves! ♥
